My work is representational. I'm trying to mix the things I see, and the things I want to see, to arrive at a personal communication. Opening up creatively, and allowing myself to be engaged by a visual conversation between the paint and the idea requires a draw on my insight and empathy. The challenge is in capturing something beyond the literal qualities of the subject. I am ultimately seeking the integrity of what it is that moved me to paint the subject in the first place. I want to evoke the sensation, the feeling, the atmosphere, the mood. To voice this, I also consider the painterly concept I need to work with to get me there. I work in watercolours and oils.

In Real Life ...
On my non-painting days, I work at Kingston Frameworks. It's definitely a fun place for an artist like myself. I enjoy the creative input I can provide to customers who come in to frame their favourite pieces of art.
